Details
The San Geronimo Lodge is named for St. Jerome , the patron saint of Taos Pueblo chosen by the Spaniards when they built their mission church in 1619. The feast of San Geronimo is celebrated on September 30 every year with special ceremonies at Taos Pueblo.
In 1925, Clara Witt Bonnell opened the Lodge as the first resort hotel in Taos. Located 2 miles from Taos Plaza, in what once was 65 acres of her familys orchards; The San Geronimo Lodge introduced the Old West to a world of tourists in their new-fangled motorcars.
Today, three quarters of a century later the old adobe lodge still welcomes visitors from around the world. After numerous face-lifts and all the modern conveniences , the lodge still has the serenity and charm of another time.
